I see only blue skies

"Positive emotions empower; negative emotions disempower."
~ Gary Zukav

Well, I woke up too early again last night and on a Saturday no less. Not cool at all. The fortunate thing is I can take a nap this afternoon, although my parents are in town visiting for the weekend so I may power through (Not that they would mind me taking a nap; we're napping people!).

I believe I woke up early due to allowing work stuff get to me again. I'm really focusing on the negative versus the positive, and it needs to STOP NOW! Not only for me, but for the health of my baby.

Better squeeze some yoga in before my mom and I go to Babies R' Us to register.

"When the day is cloudy, the blue sky is limited, when it is clear the beauty is all around. Harmful thoughts act as gray clouds to your positive perception, so create a wind of hopefulness and blow away those clouds and be captivated by the beauty of freedom."
~ Allen Steble

I love quotes, but I'm in more a quote mood than usual today because I discovered Quotiki. It's a "
social quotes site that lets you quickly find and enjoy quotes. As a member ... you can start tagging, submitting, rating and collecting quotes."

Baby registry - I asked, you answered

Feeling much better about starting a baby registry! From soliciting advice a few days ago on my blog, to posting on a Facebook group for pregnant ladies (where I received a really good checklist), to e-mailing recently pregnant friends, I have come up with a fairly strong list. Below are key points for you, in case you're looking for tips as well.

Advice from friends:
  • Jumparoo (for the baby when it's older)
  • Swing that goes forward and back
  • Dr. Brown’s bottles - nine of the small (4 ou.) and nine of the large (8 ou.) bottles
  • Bottle warmer
  • Bathtub
  • Play pen or pack and play, one with a changing station on it
  • Mirror for your car so the baby can see you since he/she sits backwards
  • Bouncy seat that vibrates
  • Newborn sleep gowns with had hand covers
  • Sleep and play outfits
  • Diaper Champ
  • Gymini Melody Maker Play Mat
  • Wipe warmer - didn't scream much when diapers changed because wipes were warmed
  • Stroller system (car seat and stroller)
  • Car seat base (so you only need one car seat)
  • I was told not to register for blankets or clothes since a lot of people will buy those on their own.
I also listened to PregTASTIC podcast #72 - Registry Tips, Desired Gifts, and To Mini Van or Not? The must haves I picked up from listening:

  • My breast friend nursing pillow – take to hospital, even though "big contraption"
  • Bottles - Playtex drop-in
  • Stroller - Graco metro light; Bugaboo - expensive
  • Books with ratings of products - Baby Bargains & Consumer Reports
Here's a list of more generic items to put on the list:
  • onesies
  • burp cloths
  • towels & wash cloths
  • bibs
  • baby monitor
  • bottle cleaner
  • baby nail clippers
  • diaper bag
I'm still debating about where to register. For sure Babies R' Us, but I think I am going to register at Target, even if it is weird about returning items. I think we have to have one place that is convenient for people - maybe we'll just reinforce on the shower invitation to include the receipt (Is this kosher?). Someone else also said to remove registry items once purchased so the chances of duplication decreased.

Hope this is of use to someone and thanks to everyone who helped! Let me know if I missed anything.

Waking up early brings a hodge podge of info

When I first visited the doctor to confirm I was pregnant, I received a packet of information, including a card to subscribe to a magazine called American Baby. I received the "welcome" addition in the mail yesterday, and it has tons of great information for a newly expectant mother. I highly recommend it, especially considering the first six issues are free.

Also found a great Web site for finding a baby name called Nymbler. Basically it finds names based on ones you like and don't like. I was fairly amazed at some of the names that started popping up based on my selections because some were my favorites! Check it out.

As you can see from my time stamp, I'm up way too early this morning. This is the first time I've woken up and couldn't fall back asleep since my pregnancy began. Practicing yoga usually helps me get a good night's sleep, but I think I allowed my mind to get too riled up yesterday due to things at work and then at my yoga class. I actually received my first negative comment card at the Y about the music I had in class Monday. I played a sitar CD given by a "friend" over in India I had worked with during my day job. I knew it was a little risky but thought I'd give it a try. I think the negative comment resonated with me even more since I left my 9-to-5 job a little pissy. Here's a fine example of the law of attraction working - what we put out there, we attract. So I allowed negativity about something that doesn't even matter, and I received more of it. It's so hard to stay positive, but it is worth it in the long run.

I'm going to try and go back to sleep with some happy thoughts... wish me luck!

Baby registry ... HELP?

I need HELP! My parents are supposed to be visiting this weekend, and my mom and I are going to set up a baby registry. Where do you suggest registering? I was thinking Babies R' US and Target since it's everywhere, and we have family and friends all over the country.

I found this random Web page explaining all sorts of specific registry items.

I started a topic about this as well in a Facebook discussion board - we'll see what people suggest there. However, if you have ideas, please hit comment below and give me some Web sites, stores, specific products, etc. you think I need for my baby!

THANK YOU for your COMMENTS!

Most "uplifting" day of the year

As I was sipping green tea this morning and watching the local news, I heard a very discouraging story to start my workweek.

Apparently the last Monday of January is the most depressing day of the year. Thank you Mr. Local News Anchor for the very "uplifting" message to get me rearing to go! This is an example of why I don't typically watch the TV local news - it always bums me out, whether it's about murders, house fires, insert depressing story here. But to tell me straight out, hey if you're really feeling gloomy today, it's okay because it's the most depressing day of the year ... I don't really appreciate this message.

So I'm going to have to flip this thought, just like Louise L. Hay teaches and say out loud, "This is the most uplifting day of the year!"

Try it and let me know if it works!

Find your name's hidden meaning

I found the Web site below - try it out on your name or your baby's potential names. What I received back on my name is kind of freaky. If you know me, you might agree.

***What Marjie Means***

You are confident, self assured, and capable. You are not easily intimidated.
You master any and all skills easily. You don't have to work hard for what you want.
You make your life out to be exactly how you want it. And you'll knock down anyone who gets in your way!

You are usually the best at everything ... you strive for perfection.
You are confident, authoritative, and aggressive.
You have the classic "Type A" personality.

You are wild, crazy, and a huge rebel. You're always up to something.
You have a ton of energy, and most people can't handle you. You're very intense.
You definitely are a handful, and you're likely to get in trouble. But your kind of trouble is a lot of fun.

You are fair, honest, and logical. You are a natural leader, and people respect you.
You never give up, and you will succeed... even if it takes you a hundred tries.
You are rational enough to see every part of a problem. You are great at giving other people advice.

You tend to be pretty tightly wound. It's easy to get you excited... which can be a good or bad thing.
You have a lot of enthusiasm, but it fades rather quickly. You don't stick with any one thing for very long.
You have the drive to accomplish a lot in a short amount of time. Your biggest problem is making sure you finish the projects you start.

You are friendly, charming, and warm. You get along with almost everyone.
You work hard not to rock the boat. Your easy going attitude brings people together.
At times, you can be a little flaky and irresponsible. But for the important things, you pull it together.

Restorative yoga might not be for pregnant yoginis

Just tried restorative yoga for the first time at Darling Yoga. I thought it might help me open up my back and the extreme leg cramp in my left calf - woke up Saturday morning with a leg cramp or charlie horse that made me scream and now my calf is still as hard as a rock. (BTW my sciatica is feeling much better! Guess I traded one for the other!)

Before the start of class, I reminded the instructor of my pregnancy since I'm new to the studio. She remembered me, which was nice, and said that I may become nauseous since we will be laying down a lot. Well, boy was she right. I've heard and read so many different things about lying
down in pregnancy, and I figured being propped up on bolsters would keep me from being flat on my back, but I definitely felt a little sick in the stomach after being in some positions for 10 minutes or so. I ended up propping myself up with a block under my bolster in a diagonal or laying to my side. The cool thing was I felt the baby moving a lot, probably to say, "get off your back MAMA!"
